  36. 1. DESCRIPTION
  37.  
  38. M72_W95.EXE contains the 7.20 version of the Logitech mouse driver 
  39. for Windows 95. The driver works with any Logitech pointing device(s) 
  40. operating under Windows 95, including previous versions of the 
  41. Logitech Enhanced MouseWare Control Center software for Windows 95.
  42.  
  43. Installation of this driver into Windows 95 will automatically set 
  44. the middle button of a Logitech 3 button mouse to function as a left 
  45. mouse button double click.
  46.  
  47. Additionally, we have included a DOS mouse driver for users who are 
  48. running DOS programs outside of Windows 95.
  49.  
  50. NOTE: This update was designed for Windows 95. Please do not install 
  51. it into environments other than those specified.
  52.

  55. 2. INSTALLATION
  56.  
  57. For purposes of these examples, we will assume the floppy drive is 
  58. the "A:" drive. If this is your "B:" drive, please substitue "B:" for 
  59. "A:" throughout the instructions below.
  60.  
  61. These examples also assume that Windows has been installed into the 
  62. directory C:\WINDOWS. If Windows has been installed into a directory 
  63. other than C:\WINDOWS, please substitute that directory for 
  64. C:\WINDOWS in all of the instructions below. For example, if the 
  65. step is to "Type CD\WINDOWS\SYSTEM and press [ENTER]", but Windows 
  66. is installed in the C:\WIN95 directory, please type "CD\WIN95\SYSTEM" 
  67. instead.
  68.  
  69. If you are not certain of the directory Windows is installed in, you 
  70. can find out by clicking on "Start", "Find", "Files or Folders". Type 
  71. in "WIN.COM" and press [ENTER]. When the listing of files found comes 
  72. up, look at the column titled "In Folder". This will show you where 
  73. Windows is installed. However, if multiple files are listed, you will 
  74. need to determine which folder is the directory Windows is installed.

  77. 2.1 Decompressing the files from M72_W95.EXE *************************
  78.  
  79. If you have not already done so, copy the M72_W95.EXE file into an 
  80. empty, temporary directory or onto a blank, formatted floppy diskette. 
  81. Once the file has been moved to one of these locations, please follow 
  82. these instructions:
  83.  
  84. - Launch Windows 95
  85. - Close any open applications.
  86. - Click on "Start", "Find", then "Files or Folders".  
  87.  
  88. NOTE: If you have copied the M72_W95.EXE file to a floppy diskette, 
  89. change the "Look in:" directory to search the "A:\" drive.
  90.  
  91. - Type "M72_W95.EXE" and press [ENTER].
  92. - Double click the M72_W95 icon in the listing of files found. A 
  93.   dialog box will appear asking you if you want the file to be 
  94.   extracted to "C:\LOGITEMP". Click "UNZIP" to continue.
  95. - Once the files have been successfully unzipped, close the unzip 
  96.   utility.
  97.  
  98. The files are now expanded and ready to be installed.

  101. 2.2  Windows 95 driver ***********************************************
  102.  
  103. - Click the "Start" button on the Windows 95 Taskbar.
  104. - Click on "Settings", then click on "Control Panel".
  105. - Launch the System Icon and click on the "Device Manager" Tab.
  106. - Double click on the Mouse Icon and a Mouse Model Icon should 
  107.   appear as a branch underneath the Mouse Icon.
  108.  
  109. Note: If there is no Mouse Icon in your Device Manager, please skip to 
  110. section 2.21, called "The Add New Hardware Method".
  111.  
  112. - Click on the Mouse Model Icon to highlight it.
  113. - Click the "Properties" button, then click on the "Driver" Tab.
  114. - Click the "Change Driver" button.
  115. - Click the "Have Disk" button.
  116. - When prompted, browse to the C:\LOGITEMP directory and click OK.
  117. - Under Models, select the correct model that matches your pointing 
  118.   device type and click on the OK button.
  119. - Click the OK button on the "Driver" Tab.
  120. - Windows 95 should now copy the mouse files to your system.
  121. - Click on the "Close" button of the "Device Manager" Tab.
  122. - Windows 95 may now ask you to restart the system, click on "YES".

  124. The Logitech Mouse Driver for Windows 95, version 7.20, is now 
  125. installed and active.

  128. 2.21 The Add New Hareware Method *************************************
  129.  
  130. Please use this method if you were referred to do so from section 2.2 
  131. above.
  132.  
  133. - Click the "Start" button on the Windows 95 Taskbar.
  134. - Click on "Settings", then click on "Control Panel".
  135. - Launch the "Add New Hardware" Icon and click on "Next" to begin
  136.   installing new hardware.
  137. - When asked "Do you want Windows to search for your new hardware"? 
  138.   select "NO" and click on "Next".
  139. - In the Hardware list, click on the Mouse Icon. 
  140.  
  141. NOTE: If there is no Mouse Icon available, click on the "Other 
  142. Devices" Icon.    
  143.  
  144. - Click on "Next".
  145. - Click the "Have Disk" button.
  146. - When prompted, browse to the C:\LOGITEMP directory and click OK.
  147. - Under Models, select the correct model that matches the pointing 
  148.   device type and click on "Next".
  149. - Click on "Finish".
  150. - Windows 95 should now copy the mouse files to the system.
  151. - Windows 95 will now ask you to restart the system, click on "YES" 
  152.   to restart the system.

  154. The Logitech Mouse Driver for Windows 95, version 7.20, is now 
  155. installed and active.

  158. 2.3  DOS driver (optional) *******************************************
  159.  
  160. Included in this update is the 7.20 DOS mouse driver. If you wish to 
  161. have DOS mouse driver support in DOS based applications when you 
  162. select "Restart the computer in MS-DOS mode", please make the 
  163. following modifications:
  164.  
  165. NOTE: You must have already installed the Windows 95 driver as shown 
  166. above, in section 2.1.
  167.  
  168. - Click the "Start" button on the Windows 95 Taskbar.
  169. - Click on "Shut Down" and then choose "Restart the Computer in 
  170.   MS-DOS mode". 
  171. - At the C:\Windows prompt type "CD\" and press [ENTER]
  172. - At the C:\ prompt type "MD MOUSE" and press [ENTER]
  173. - Copy these files, MOUSE.EXE and MOUSEDRV.INI, from the C:\LOGITEMP 
  174.   directory into the C:\MOUSE directory.
  175. - At the C:\ prompt type "CD\WINDOWS" and press [ENTER]
  176. - At the C:\Windows prompt type "EDIT C:\WINDOWS\DOSSTART.BAT" and
  177.   press [ENTER]
  178. - Add the following lines to the end of this file:
  179.  
  180. SET LMOUSE=C:\MOUSE
  181. C:\MOUSE\MOUSE.EXE
  182.  
  183. For this example, it is assumed the DOS mouse driver is located in the 
  184. C:\MOUSE directory.
  185.  
  186. - Press the "ALT" key and "F" for File, then "X" for Exit. Press "Y" 
  187.   to exit and save. 
  188. - At the C:\Windows prompt type "EXIT" and press [ENTER] to return 
  189.   to Windows 95.
  190.  
  191. The Logitech Mouse Driver for DOS is now installed and will launch 
  192. automatically whenever you Restart in MS-DOS mode.

  194. To test the mouse is DOS:
  195.  
  196. - Click the "Start" button on the Windows 95 Taskbar.
  197. - Click on "Shut Down" and then choose "Restart the Computer in 
  198.   MS-DOS mode". 
  199. - From the C:\Windows prompt, launch the DOS EDITOR program by 
  200.   typing "EDIT" and press [ENTER]
  201. - Now, move your mouse to see it move the mouse cursor around the 
  202.   screen within the EDIT program.

  207. 3. ADDITIONAL NOTES
  208.  
  209. Under Windows, some programs require the middle button to generate a 
  210. standard middle button event, instead of a Double Click (i.e. like in 
  211. a CAD application). If you are not running a Logitech Enhanced Mouse 
  212. Control Center to control the Button Assignments of pointing device, 
  213. you may need to disable the default Double Click setting of the 
  214. driver and regain a standard middle mouse button click. To do this, 
  215. you will need to make the following modification in the Windows 95 
  216. Registry:
  217.  
  218. NOTE: For information about how to edit the registry, view the 
  219. "Changing Keys And Values" on-line Help topic in Registry Editor 
  220. (REGEDIT.EXE). Make a backup copy of the registry files (SYSTEM.DAT 
  221. and USER.DAT) before you edit the registry.

  226. Using the Registry Editor incorrectly may cause symptoms requiring a 
  227. reinstallation of Windows 95. Logitech cannot guarantee that issues 
  228. resulting from the incorrect use of Registry Editor can be solved. 
  229. Use the Registry Editor at your own discretion. The Registry Editor 
  230. should only be used to make the following modifications. Please 
  231. follow the instructions below:
  232.  
  233. - Click on the "Start" button on the Windows 95 Desktop and select 
  234.   "Run".
  235. - On the Open line, type "C:\WINDOWS\REGEDIT.EXE" and click OK.
  236. - From the Registry Editor screen, double click on HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE.
  237. - Double click on SOFTWARE.
  238. - Double click on LOGITECH.
  239. - Double click on MOUSEWARE.
  240. - Double click on CURRENTVERSION.
  241. - Find your device model from the list under CurrentVersion and 
  242.   double click on that folder.
  243. - Click on the 0000 folder and information should be displayed on the 
  244.   right side of the Registry Editor screen.
  245. - Under the Name column, double click on the "DoubleClick" entry and 
  246.   the Edit String Dialogue box should appear.
  247. - Modify the Value Data line to read "000" and click the OK button.
  248. - Exit the Registry Editor, saving is automatic, and restart 
  249.   Windows 95.

  251. The middle button should now generate a standard middle button event.
